Week1

This week, I met the new teacher, Catalina. After she introduced herself to us, everyone introduced themselves. And asked us why we chose this course. For the reason of choosing this module, I think new media is a trend of the development of The Times. And in the future, people will always have access to various forms of media. Choosing this course is not only my hobby, but also provides me with more options to find a job in the future.

In this week’s class, we learned about the form of documentary through the example of the documentary played by the teacher. There are many forms of documentaries, two of which I am most interested in are observational and participatory documentaries. We watched short films from two types of documentaries. Both of them are very interesting to me, especially What’s in your pocket. We also learned about podcasting. In this class, I have a new understanding of the communication form of information. Before that, I knew very little about podcast and had never even used them. After this class, I got a little interested in podcast.

Week2

In week 2 ,we’ve learned about different kinds of camera angles,such as : Panning shots, Tilting shots, Point of View shots, hand held shot and so on. By using these camera angles, we created a short veido to demonstrating our understanding of these angles.

Here is the short film that our group made. The close-up shot , medium shot, hand held shot and more are used in this film. We came up with this idea because on that day is Valentine’s Day, when people think about this festival, they might image that couples get together and having a kiss and a romantic dinner. But we are different, there is more than one form of happiness, sometimes breaking up is a kind of happiness.

On friday, it was a pratice lesson, we learned about how to use professional film camera. In this class, we learned about setting up a tripod, adjusting focus and focal length, changing the shutter speed, the ISO, and white balence.

Here is our shot vedio about the camera angle. We use establishing shot, pan, tilt, a shot containing a frame within a frame, change of focus, extreme close up, high camera angle, low camera angle and so on.

Week3

This week, we learned how to do a simple interview and use a recording device. Before using the equipment, we were asked to think about the interview questions and to include the content of the questions in the answers before they were answered. And the teacher also reminded us to cut out the voice of the interviewer in the post editing. The question in this interview is about my hometown. After the interviewee has figured out how to answer, we assemble the equipment and use professional recording equipment. The recording device is a kind of long-lever device, which requires a person to hold the device in front of or on top of the interviewer’s mouth during the interview.After that, we should pay attention to placing the lens at a height parallel to the interviewee’s line of sight. Since our position is relatively dark, the teacher gave us a light to help us solve the problem of light.

In this week’s seminar, we learned the documentary format at a deeper level. And discussed the format of our favorite documentary. I am very interested in participatory documentaries. First, participatory documentaries can interact with the interviewees. I think this is a very interesting way of recording. Second, this is also a kind of exercise for my interpersonal communication manpower. Third, you can better understand people’s views on the content of the documentary I want to shoot.

Week4

This week we learned about audio and how to use professional recording equipment. Before using these devices, we now feel some voices around us in the classroom. The teacher told all of us to close our eyes and record all the sounds around us. I heard footsteps, the sound of clothes rubbing on the table, the sound of closing the door, the sound of wind, the sound of birds, my own breathing etc. After that, we learned how to use recording equipment and went out to collect some sounds. I recorded the sound of closing the door at the door of friston, and the sound of going up the stairs. There was a puddle outside the door. I asked lucas to hold the device and recorded the sound of my stepping on the puddle. And in the parking lot we recorded the sound of the car engine.

In this week’s seminar, we listened to an audio and talked about our feelings. This audio contains church bells, singing, door opening, bird chirping, etc. During this time, I can think of a poetic picture. It was one morning, when people just woke up, the birds outside the window began to sing,and the singing of the church came from afar. A poet is ready to go out to enjoy spring after washing.

Of course, everyone has their own views. Some people think that mixing these sounds will make people uncomfortable. Some people think this is a horror movie.

Week5

Our task this week is to have a short interview with two people on campus. Our interviewees are two students on campus, one is from another country and the other is a native of the UK.At the beginning, we encountered some difficulties. The first one was that we were too shy to talk to strangers. Especially when holding a recording device, both parties will feel embarrassed. But after the interview with the first student, this situation seemed much better. Before the interview, we first thought about the interview. 1. What do you think attracts you most from the school? 2. How do you feel at school? 3 What do you think of the school?

Our first interview was with a Japanese girl eating in a Bramber house. But she didn’t seem to be willing to communicate with us. After a brief exchange, we left. The second interviewee was a student from Norway in the printing room. After finishing the interview, I found that I forgot to press the button to start recording. Although we really wanted him to answer again, it seemed that he was busy at the time. So we went to the library door to find other people.The third person is a media student, he is happy to help us. We asked some opinions about life at school and school strikes. He answered these questions very seriously.

Some people think that in the current era, mobile phones can already replace watches. But in modern times, a watch may not be just a tool for looking at time. It may be a symbol of identity, such as a businessman’s watch, or a tool for comparison between teenagers. Furthermore, in the age of advanced technology, many watches have appeared on the market very early, such as apple watches, telephone watches, and some watches that can help people monitor their health at any time. The purpose of shooting this documentary is that I want to know what the watch means to people now

I was inspired by what’s in your poket. When I mention an item, I first think of some things that people commonly use in daily life, such as glasses and handkerchiefs. In the wiyp video, I found that when the video shows people’s pockets, they let people hold the items in their pockets and interview people with close-up shots. Because the items in the pocket are often necessary personal belongings and may have some memories, when people talk about the items in their pockets, there may be some expression changes on their faces. It is better to use close-up shots Showing people’s facial expressions. I also found that for some interviewees, instead of shooting at an angle parallel to the line of sight, I used a high angle, which I will also use in my video.

Week8

Due to COVID-19, the original documentary could not be shot normally. So we changed the theme. The topic now is a story about an object. This is my PowerPoint.
